State of the Art

The Official Allie T response to Artie's retirement: Artie, I will be really sad to not see you patrol Left field for us. The only mistake you ever made was playing RF in the first game with us and not telling us to put you in LF until the game was over. It was a tremendous run we all had for Forrester's and now judging by the color scheme of us this website I know exactly who our sponsor will be next year. I hope we can get you for a couple of games as a replacement or spectator. We will only accept your retirement if you follow the conditions listed: a) Artie cannot be on any Friday night roster except for our team. b) He cannot start his own Forrester's team unless it is in the over 40 league and C) if he does come out of retirement, his next retirement speech will not be via blog, BUT at a mic stand at City Park. One thing I have in common with my Uncle is that you are the best outfielder I've played with, so I can only imagine what you were like in your "prime." Good luck in the over 40 league and remember I'm 35 and I'll be the first Forrester's teammate eligible. On a more personal note, thanks for the chat you had with Shira we will all have to gather at some point for a drink or few Be well, Allie

Allie, thanks for the kind words, especially the Uncle reference. Believe me, that tumultuous game I debuted in right field is emblazoned in my memory!!!!! I once tried to calculate how many organized softball games I've played in my life and I came up with a number approaching 600 and I can't remember what I did in any one game BUT, I can remember pitch-by-pitch that first game I played with you guys in right field!!! Here I was, the new guy on the squad and the oldest guy to boot!!! Joey brings me on your team and I shit the bed!!! I must have been out of my mind to offer to play right field, although considering myself a good athlete, right field shouldn't have been a problem. WRONG!!!! I've played left field for almost 30 years (I have a wort on my foot that's 30 years old), but I didn't want to come on a new team and take away a position from Foster or demand to play a certain position or bat in a certain spot in the order. I didn't and I never cared where I batted on a softball team. In slow pitch softball, everyone gets up 3 or 4 times and should get a hit whether they're batting 1st or 8th!!! Anyway, that game against McKiernan's was a nightmare and I can close my eyes and see myself spinning like a top, trying to catch those fly balls in right field!!!!And then, falling on my ass. What an impression I was leaving on my new team. I swear, I felt the daggers from everyone on the team and I sensed Joey trying to come up with some excuse as to why he insisted I be the new man on the squad!!
So, once again, thanks for those kind words. It means a lot to me and for sure, I'll keep a lineup spot open for you on my over-the-hill, ah, I mean, over-40 team in 5 years!
I hope you all had a great time Friday night! How ironic is it that you guys had Joey's bachelor party on a Friday night. It's just like a Forester's drink fest, but without the red shirts!!!
